I feel blessed to say that I grew up going to church, where I had a strong biblical foundation established early in life. However, going to college really tests this, because your faith really becomes your own. This was my experience, and God placed me at Every Nation Campus (ENC) where I found a strong community to encourage and equip me in my faith, so much that I saw my relationship with God flourish.
This is my heart and desire for the college students at Duke University. Many students see their faith wane because they are no longer being pushed to go to church by their parents and are not surrounded by the community. Furthermore, Duke, being a secular university, creates an atmosphere in which faith is never really talked about. Because of this, I want to engage more students with the gospel, especially our large international population, by fostering a welcoming and open atmosphere where people feel comfortable coming with their questions. I want to begin to change the narrative that science and faith are incompatible and remove that intellectual block that many students have. Lastly, I want to continue to grow the sense of community and to show that following God isn’t just a Sunday event but a lifestyle.
The ENC motto is: “Change the campus, change the world.” This is only possible through people partnering with me. Together, we can change Duke’s campus.
